EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING & ORGANIZATION
What is executive functioning and how would counseling help with it?
What does organization have to do with counseling?

I'll answer the first two questions first, and then share with you a little bit more, too.

Executive functioning can be best understood if we see it as the 'shift manager' of your brain. This means that everything that goes into a well-balanced way of thinking, and functioning, ends up encompassing what 'executive function' is. Whether it is 'getting things done' or being able to be (and remain) 'productive', to your capacity for memory - we're ultimately talking about executive function. We often see folks with ADHD struggle with executive function, which makes perfect sense - but struggles with executive function go beyond just one diagnosis, too. In our work together we will explore why it is you might be struggling with executive function and engage in tools that will improve this part of your life.

'Organization' often fits in to therapy as an extension of executive function. I personally struggled with organization for most of my life, because my version of being organized never aligned with what it looks like for the majority of the world. Guess what? That's OK! In therapy, this work can feel or look like "getting your life together"...meaning discovering how your individual brain works, how you prefer to organize tasks for life management, and how this aligns with your personality, lifestyle, and the realistic demands of your day-to-day life.

Managing daily life is not something that we are all naturally attuned to (or ever taught, for that matter). The good news?
Counseling can help.
