EMOTIONAL REGULATION & SELF ESTEEM
You might be wondering why I would couple these two topics together. The truth is that oftentimes, how well we are able to regulate our emotions can impact how we feel about ourselves. Big, seemingly unmanageable negative emotions towards others can easily mean big, seemingly unmanageable negative emotions towards ourselves.
Thankfully, the opposite is true, too.

In my work with clients regarding emotional regulation and self-esteem, I view the client as the middle point within a web of sorts. I know through my work that there are so many factors that contribute to your individual ability to express emotions towards others and towards yourself in a 'regulated' way. Stage of brain development (or the age of your brain), your personality, your environment, past or current trauma and much more all play different roles in this.
If you choose to come to counseling to work on emotional regulation and self-esteem, my job will be to draw out that web alongside you. This web will mean understanding why and how negative thoughts and emotions might be impacting you (as well as others around you). We will work together to build several tools which you can practice in a safe place (the counseling room) as well as in your real life.
How you heal the regulation of thoughts and emotions will ultimately mean a healing of you, the 'self' in 'self-esteem'.
